Temperature and time criteria for dehydrogenation of fasteners

The standards for fastener dehydrogenation temperature and time are as follows:

  • Temperature range: The temperature of fastener dehydrogenation is usually between 190-230℃. Specific temperature settings can be adjusted according to the size of the plated part, the process and the temperature control curve. For example, an electrothermal blast-type plating fastener dehydrogenation furnace is designed for a temperature of 300°C, but the dehydrogenation set temperature is usually between 180-220°C.
  • Time Range: Dehydrogenation times are typically 2 hours, 4 hours, or 6 hours or more, depending on the material and tensile strength of the plated part. For example, bolts of size M12 and below are baked in a high temperature oven at 190-210°C for 4 hours; self-tapping locking screws require 6 hours of baking.

Purpose and method of dehydrogenation:

The main purpose of dehydrogenation is to remove the hydrogen atoms generated in the plating process to prevent hydrogen embrittlement and ensure that the fasteners will not be brittle during use. The dehydrogenation method usually adopts high-temperature baking, which makes hydrogen atoms escape through the circulation of hot air.

Characteristics of dehydrogenation equipment:

  • Temperature uniformity: electric heating and hot air circulation ensure uniform temperature distribution in the studio.
  • Safety: large air volume air exchange function and front air exchange function keep the concentration of waste gas in the box in a safe range.
  • Intelligent: Digital display temperature control instrument and PID parameter self-tuning function can intelligently adjust the parameters according to the process needs.
  • Protection device: over-temperature protection device can issue sound and light beeping signal and cut off the heating power supply when over-temperature, to ensure the safety of equipment and workpiece.
